The Executive Bord of the
Student Government held it’s bi
monthly meeting Tuesday night,
October 27 in Hines HalL
President Joe Harwood presided
over the meeting.
In the old business it was
brought up that Harwood would
speak on the new name of the
Student Center at the Bord of
Trustees meeting. Also included

“A Streetcar Named Desire,”
a three-act play by Tennessee
Williams, was presented by
stage and Scirpt on October 23,
24, 25 in Howard Chapel. The
play starred Kathy Hartenstine,
as Blanche Dubois; Steve
Bassett, as Stanley Kowalski;
and Fran Mercer, as Stella
Kowalski. The story centered
around Blanche Dubois, who
came to visit her sister, Stella.
Blanche is faced by the un
welcome attitude of Stella’s
husband, Stanley, Blanche has
created many fantasies to cover
up her unpleasant past. She had
caused her young husband’s
suicide; she was living in a
world apart from reality. Her
being the cause of his death
made her continue to relive it.
She loved him still, in spite of the
truth of his life, and thus she
gradually became insane. She
was partly insane when she
discovered her husband and an
older man together, and she was
overcome by shock, nbt wanting
to face reality. Thus she created
a dream world, a facade for
everyone but her true self.
Stella
Stella, Blanche’s sister, was
divided between love for her
propriate $25.00 to the Kent
Legal Fund as an aid in bail and
defense of involved students.
The motion was defeated.
Arnold Hamm, Sophomore
Class senator, moved that the
Executive Bord hold
Homecoming Queen elections
Thursday the 29th and Friday
the October 30 from 12:00 p.m.
4:00 p.m. on Thursday and from
9:00 to 4:00 p.m.on Friday.
Discussion concerning a
student college roster was held.
A committee was appointed to
look further into this matter.
The next meeting of the
Executive Board was designed
for November 9th and the
meeting was adjourned.
sister and love for her husband.
Stanley was a hard realist whose
compassion was limited to his
own desires. Despite his brutal
ity, Stanley’s love won out in the
end. Harold Mitchell (Mitch),
was used as a diversion between
Blanche’s world of fantasy and
the world of reality. The
diversion was temporary, and
her dream world became her
world of reality. A host of minor
characters added color to the set
as well as to the play itself.
Drama
This is the first time such a
revealing drama has been
presented here at Atlantic
Christian. The performances of
the actors as a whole were
dynamic. The gestures and
expressions of the characters
were excellent. The voice
quality, however, was not up to
the expectations of the audience
as a whole for several of the
characters. Many of the actors
tried too hard to make the
character which they were
portraying come alive. The
characters of Stanley and Stella
projected themselves more
realistically than did the others.
One has to feel a part before one
can portray it. The actor must
become the character.
